Maha Panchami ushers in Durga Puja festivity
The year-long wait for the annual festival of the Hindus, especially the Bengali community-Durga Puja, was finally put to rest on Wednesday morning, which marks the day of Maha Panchami.
The day unofficially marks the commencement of the Durga Puja.
Although rituals allow the unveiling of Goddess Durga on Maha Shashti, festive frenzy Bengalis now-a-days begin their celebrations form the very day of Maha Panchami.
Several marquees across Kolkata brings in the idols of Goddess Durga and along with her four children (Laxmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh) on this day, who make their annual trip to maternal house on earth.
The day marks the beginning of the festivity as Bengalis prepare themselves in every possible way to worship the Goddess of Power- Durga.
Several marquees are inaugurated by eminent personalities on this day.
People dressed in colourful new clothes start their 'pandalhopping' from the eve of Maha Panchami, to witness various Durga idols and innovative marquees.
It is finally the time for all the Bengalis to begin their mood of festivity from today and continue the same feeling of joy in the coming five days.
