I was raped at knifepoint in New York: Madonna
Pop icon Madonna has revealed that she was raped at knifepoint while in New York during her early career days.
In an essay for "The Daring Issue" of Harper's Bazaar, Madonna said when she was young and trying to start her career in New York she was sexually assaulted.
"New York wasn't everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don't know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time," she wrote, quoted The Los Angeles Times.
Born in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna shifted to New York City in 1977 to pursue a career in modern dance and performed in the music groups Breakfast Club and Emmy.
