"Troops of Tentulia Check Post, 152 Bn BSF seized 22 gold biscuits weighed approx. 2.691 Kg from the possession of one Saidul Islam Mandal. This is the second big claimed gold seizure under the able command of Harmeet Singh, Commandant 152 Bn BSF," the BSF said in a statement.
The BSF said that the troop acted on an input that a gold consignment will be delivered to Kolkata by concealing at a TVS Apache bike.
On Thursday afternoon, the BSF troops noticed a TVS Apache bike heading towards Kolkata. They immediately put on barriers on the road and tried to stop the bike, the BSF said.
Initially, the bike rider tried to flee away, but the troops of BSF foiled his attempt and apprehended 43-year-old Saidul Islam.
However, the pillion rider managed to escape.
The troop recovered 22 gold biscuits, two earrings and one gold bar weighing approx. 2.691 kg worth over Rs. 79 lacs .
Saidul Islam Mandal has been handed over to the Swarupnagar Police Station for further investigations.
Earlier on Sept 28, troops of BOP Amudia,152 Bn, BSF apprehended one Indian with approx 526 gm gold.
During the year, the BSF has seized more than 5 Kgs gold so far .
