Arunachal gets its first 24X7 satellite channel

By Praful Kumar Singh, Itanagar, Oct.1 : Amidst thunderous applause of a massive crowd, North East Live, the first 24X7 satellite channel of Arunachal Pradesh, was born with a bang at a spectacular function at I G Park here on Monday evening.

The colour of state's rich ethnicity bloomed to the tunes of melodious traditional numbers as the audience enjoyed to their hearts' content.

The glimpse of wonderland Arunachal's cultural mosaic reflecting the unity in diversity touched the core all hearts.

"Stand up to the causes of the society to face the challenges, as you have chosen journalism as career, Chief Minister and chief guest Nabam Tuki said in his address.

Welcoming the new trend that would make the democracy vibrant, Tuki said media persons have tremendous social responsibilities.

As there are only guidelines unlike laws that guide various professions, he urged the journalists to strictly adhere to the ethics of journalism.

"I know the problems confronted by the journalists in the state because of the deep rooted cultural moorings of the state is being manoeuvred by the social, economic and political forces under the impact of modernity," Tuki said and welcomed positive criticism as he is a friend of the media.

Giving a chronology of state's media history, the chief minister said the absence of a TV channel with global coverage was felt and hoped that North East channel would fulfil that aspirations.

Highlighting the huge potentials of the state and its uniqueness with positivity, he wished all success to the new channel while contributing to the growth of the state.

"I'm pained not to see a single news item in national channels about the people of the North East region. People of the North East know more about the mainland than their counterparts in the plains know about this region," said Union DoNER Minister and guest of honour Pawan Singh Ghatowar.

How the rainbow people have been toiling to contribute towards nation building would be properly focussed by the new channel without running after TRP, he said while congratulating the people and appreciating the efforts of it CMD Takam Moni.

Realising the neglect of the North East, particularly Arunachal, by national channels, Moni said her channel's constant endeavour would be to focus on the region globally and in the right perspective.
She sought everybody's' cooperation in translating the dream into a reality and help merge towards a better tomorrow.
