Jodhpur, Sept 30 IBNS | 1 year ago

A Jodhpur court on Monday extended the judicial remand of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, who is in jail in connection with a minor's sexual assault case, till Oct 11.

Asaram will now have to stay in Jodhpur Central Jail till Oct 11.

The court had on Sept 16 extended Asaram's remand till Sept 30.

The court on Sept 4 had rejected Asaram's bail plea and ruled that he would remain in custody till Sept 15.

Asaram's lawyer had said he was unwell.

However, the prosecution lawyer argued that if granted bail, Asaram being an influential man could influence the case and witnesses.

The prosecution also told the court that the Jodhpur DCP got a fax where his supporters have threatened officers handling the case.

Asaram was sent to jail on Sept 2 after the court remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier, Asaram passed potency test, which established that he is medically fit and sexually potent.

The 15-year-old girl, who was staying at Asaram's hostel in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kamla market police station in Delhi alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman.
