Ex-England footballer Robbie Fowler apologises for 'fighting like girls' comment

London, Sept 29 : Former England footballer and football pundit Robbie Fowler had reportedly apologised after controversially saying that stars Fernando Torres and Jan Vertonghen were fighting 'like girls' during the drawn Premier League game between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Fowler made his controversial remarks on a BBC show, prompting angry viewers to vent their rage against Fowler on Twitter and suggest that he was being derogatory about women's football.

According to the Mirror, however, Fowler offered an apology for the remarks, saying that he did not mean to offend anyone, although many tweeted in support of Fowler, saying that the BBC was being too 'politically correct' and that the 'world is going mad with its sensitivities'.

But a BBC spokeswoman said that as Fowler had made a comment during a live studio chat and was concerned it may have caused offence, so he decided to make an apology before the end of the show, even though sources said that the BBC had received 'numerous' complaints.
