Kane Richardson wants 'red-ball respect' more than 'lucrative' IPL cash

Sydney, Sept 29 : Young Australian cricketer Kane Richardson is reportedly aiming to make his mark in a longer form of cricket that offers less cash but has more respect despite earning a 700,000 dollar-contract with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Pune Warriors for the 2013 season.

The South Australian fast bowler, who is known for his sharp seamers, handy strike power and athletic fielding, is setting his sights on carving out some 'red-ball respect' despite the IPL contract and the fact that he has played only in limited-overs games till now.

According to News.com.au, Richardson, who picked up six wickets at 20 in two Sheffield Shield games, said that he wants to play Shield cricket and is aiming to enter the national team while he is still fit, adding that he has not played that much first-class cricket as compared to the shorter form.

The report mentioned that the impressive in-swing of Richardson, who sustained a back hot spot after a successful Big Bash League campaign with ten wickets at 21 last season, could prove attractive to national selectors for the return Ashes series with the injury crisis afflicting Pat Cummins, James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc.

However, Richardson said that he had a good experience from his two months of playing in the IPL in India as he learnt a lot about himself, adding that he had to play good hard cricket in the IPL.
