Srinivasan wins BCCI poll unopposed

Chennai, Sept 29 : N. Srinivasan, who had earlier stepped aside as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief over IPL scam involving his kin, was re-elected unopposed on Sunday as the president of the BCCI during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) here, even though he cannot discharge duties till the Supreme Court allowed him to do so.

There were no surprises over his re-election since he was the only one to file nomination for the post on Saturday.

Srinivasan's two-year term ended on Sunday but he now got elected again since he sought a year's extension.

Five vice-presidents of BCCI also got elected unopposed. Ranjib Biswal has been appointed as the IPL Chairman.

Srinivasan's name was dragged in the IPL spot fixing scam after his son-in-law and CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan's name cropped up in investigations into betting during the sixth season of the cash rich cricket league held in April-May this year.

The BCCI last month moved the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court order terming its panel formed to probe the spot-fixing scam as "unconstitutional and illegal".

The lid was blown off the IPL scam after Rajasthan Royals players S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan - were arrested along with 11 bookies from Mumbai on May 16 for their role in spot-fixing in the ongoing tournament.
