BSF, NIA seize Rs 10 lakh fake currency

Kolkata, Sept 24 : The Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier on Tuesday seized a huge consignment of fake Indian currency notes (FCIN).


According to reports, on Tuesday at about 10:30 am on specific information of the BSF intelligence branch, BSF troops of border out post (BOP) - Churiantpur 125 Battalion BSF under sector headquarters BSF Malda launched a special operation along with a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The team searched a vehicle with registration number WB-66-B2415 (Tata Sumo Gold) near Shesh Road approximately 4 Kms away from BOP-Churiantpur and recovered FICN worth Rs 10 lakhs from the vehicle that were kept wrapped in a plastic bag and hidden in a cement bag underneath the driver's seat.

The driver of vehicle namely Iqtarul Haque (44 yrs) from village Uttar Dariyapur of police station Kaliachak under district Malda has also been apprehended.

This is a major breakthrough in the recovery of FICN by BSF and NIA, in a major blow to FICN smugglers, officials noted.

In the last few months BSF has been able to seize approximately 50 lakh of FICN on specific information.
