IM operative escapes from Mumbai court

Mumbai, Sept 20 : Suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Afzal Usmani on Friday escaped from custody after he was brought by the police to MCOCA court in Mumbai for a hearing of his case, reports said.

The court has issued arrest warrant against him.

He was being brought from the Taloja Jail in Navi Mumbai to the court along with 22 others .

The suspected IM operative is accused of transporting and planting explosives during the 2008 blasts in Ahmedabad city.

Twenty blasts rocked Ahmedabad in Gujarat on July 26, 2008, within a few hours, which claimed more than 50 lives and left over 200 injured.

The police arrested Usmani from Uttar Pradesh a month later on Aug 27, 2008.
