Asaram disciples rally outside jail
Disciples and supporters of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu on Thursday rallied outside the Jodhpur Central Jail to catch a glimpse of him on the occasion of full moon.
Security was beefed up on the jail premises.
A Jodhpur court on Monday extended the judicial remand of Asaram, who is in jail in connection with a minor's sexual assault case, by 14 days.
Asaram will now have to stay in Jodhpur Central Jail till Sept 30.
The court on Sept 4 had rejected Asaram's bail plea and ruled that he would remain in custody till Sept 15.
Asaram's lawyer had said he was unwell.
However, the prosecution lawyer argued that if granted bail, Asaram being an influential man could influence the case and witnesses.
The prosecution also told the court that the Jodhpur DCP got a fax where his supporters have threatened officers handling the case.
Asaram was sent to jail on Sept 2 after the court remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody.
Earlier, Asaram passed potency test, which established that he is medically fit and sexually potent.
The 15-year-old girl, who was staying at Asaram's hostel in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kamla market police station in Delhi alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman.
