"Why don't you ask the traders this? The government is not the one who is selling onions," Sibal told reporters.
Earlier, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had said rising onion prices are good for the farmers.
"When prices fall no one shows any concern for the farmers. When farmers are getting more money, why should we complain," Pawar had said.
Union Food Minister K.V. Thomas on Tuesday said onion prices will come down in about 20 days.
"Onion prices will come down in 15-20 days," Thomas told NDTV.
Pertinently, as on Tuesday, onion prices in Delhi stood at Rs 70-80. In Kashmir, onions are selling at Rs 80 a kg.
In Navi Mumbai, cost ofonions are Rs 70 a kg, in Bhopal it's Rs 65 a kg. Patna is selling onions at the "cheapest" price of Rs 50 per kg.
