The 30-share benchmark index ended 9.71 points higher at 19,742.47 with 12 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.17 percent or 10.05 points lower at 5,840.55 on Monday.
The rupee however rallied to a near one-month high on Monday, hitting 62.45 per dollar on hopes of monetary policy in the U.S. that will favour emerging markets.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold fell by Rs 200 to Rs 30,100 per 10 grams while silver dropped by Rs 1,220 to Rs 49,530 per kg.
