GJM's women wing leader arrested
The police on Saturday arrested Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM)'s women wing leader Urmila Rumba allegedly involved in number of cases, including obstruction of traffic in the hills.
Urmila Rumba (63) is also a Sabhashad (member) of Gorkhland Territorial Adminsitration (GTA), an autonomous elected body of the Hills.
She was, however, released by a court after being produced on the ground of the 'senior citizen'.
She was charged with two specific cases under National Highway Act.
A latest report said police also released Food and Civil Supplies department inspector Navin Subba, who was detained for questioning on diversion of food grains, meant for public distribution system.
Earlier, a report quoting Superintendent of Police Kunar Agarwal said that Nabin Subba, who was picked up from Sukiapokhari, was arrested late Friday.
But another report said Subba was released after being interrogated for hours in the police station.
Meanwhile, the Darjeeling administration is contemplating to hold the GTA meeting on Sept 27 to elect a chief executive. The post is lying vacant after GJM president Bimal Gurung resigned on July 30 demanding separate state for Gorkhas.
