Recently, the Mr. Saraighat RG Baruah Memorial All India Classic Bodybuilding Competition celebrated its Silver Jubilee at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati.
The competition, which is known for boosting the spirit of India's aspiring muscle men, was organized by the Assam Bodybuilding and Fitness Association under the aegis of the Indian Body Builders Federation.
A total of 30 participants from across the nation, including from Manipur, Assam, Delhi, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, took part in the event.
Bobby Singh won the title and walked away with a prize money of RS.75,000, while Javed Ali Khan of the Indian Railways and Vijay Bahadur of Uttar Pradesh were placed second and third respectively in the competition.
" Since 2009, I have stayed in Assam and would like to thank the organizer and general secretary of the Assam Bodybuilding Association for making me a performer. I would like to thank the public and also the higher officials of the committee for their overwhelming," said Singh:
Singh, a North East Frontier Railway employee, hails from Manipur and has represented Assam in several tournaments during the last few years. He is a recipient of many honors and awards like the World Bodybuilding Championship 2010 and the South Asian Bodybuilding Championship in 2011.
Bobby's better demonstration of poses and muscles not only enthralled spectators, but outshone other body builders during the competition. The increased participation of musclemen from the region reflects the passion for this traditional sport.
"It has come to our notice that in Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur; Manipur especially has good bodybuilders. And in all North Eastern regions, there are body builders who are performing in the national and international sports arena," said Bhabajit Goswami, Organiser .
Bodybuilders from the region like Bobby Singh, Mahadev Deka, Bijit Gogoi and Pradeep Kumar have taken bodybuilding to great heights and are inspiring aspiring youngsters.
