IGNOU to host open universities' conclave
Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada will inaugurate the 3rd National Conference of Vice Chancellors of Open Universities at Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Block of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) on Tuesday.
Professor M. Aslam, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, will be presiding over the inauguration function.
The two-day conference, organized by IGNOU's Inter University Consortium (IUC), shall bring together leaders in the field of Open and Distance Education for a comprehensive overview of this rapidly expanding system of Education and Training and Research and Development.
The conference is intended to further define the pathway of collaboration. The main focus of the conference shall be to deliberate the emerging scenarios and future possibilities in the field of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
Collaborative efforts will be made to work towards Common Curriculum, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer, Networked ICT, Quality Assurance, Research and Development and Capacity Building.
This is to strengthen the Consortium and network of Open Universities and Dual-Mode Distance Education Centers and their mutual collaboration with the mainstream Higher Education System, IGNOU said.
"It will be a great step towards democratization of Higher Education due to which ODL was conceived. It will also be a great step towards reaching the unreached section of the society who in the normal course is beyond the umbrella of higher education," it said in a media release.
