SA's Test rankings in danger if India tour shortened: Report

Johannesburg, Sept 4 : South African media has claimed that the country's Test cricket team could be facing a decline after the India tour to the country was shortened by the BCCI over severed ties between the boards.

According to Sport24, the decision will also have serious financial repercussions, and a possible loss of 100-mln-rands is being suggested.

The fact that the ECB confirmed a bulging five-Test itinerary during India's tour to England next year is something that should not go down well among the South African players, the report said.

In the immediate future, the Proteas, meanwhile, have only a two-Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, the three- or two-Test series against India, and then a three-Test late summer visit from the Australians, the report added.

South Africa is a nation that almost always plays shorter series instead of longer series played by other countries, the report further said.
