Punjab: BSF seizes 11 kg heroin

New Delhi, Sept 2 : The Border Security Force (BSF)on Monday said its personnel have seized 11 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin on Punjab border in Amritsar Sector.


Each packet contained one kg of contraband suspected to be heroin.

"Keeping in view the vulnerability of Border from smuggling point of view, Shri Ajay Kumar Tomar, IPS, Inspector General BSF Punjab Frontier has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen border domination especially in view of rainy season and standing paddy crops so as to effectively check the menace of narcotics smuggling on Punjab border with Pakistan," the BSF said in a statement on Monday.

The troops were on high alert as inputs were received regarding attempt of smuggling from the area of Border Out Post Amar.

BSF troops of Border Out post Amar, Amritsar Sector on late Sunday night observed some suspicious movement in alignment of Boundary Pillar No. 125/4, on both sides of border security fencing.

The troops immediately alerted the BSF vehicle patrolling party placed on link road running parallel to the fencing.

BSF vehicle patrolling party tried to intercept the Indian side miscreants coming back from border security fencing and challenged them.

"However, the smugglers managed to escape leaving behind a cloth made tube having 11 packets of contraband (11 kgs) suspected to be heroin (approx value Rs. 55 crores in international market), the BSF statement said.
