Police to quiz Asaram Bapu in Bhopal
The Rajasthan Police on Friday said its team might visit Bhopal city in Madhya Pradesh to quiz self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old daughter of a devotee in Jodhpur.
Asaram on Friday failed to appear before Jodhpur police for questioning in connection to the sexual assault case.
The police earlier rejected the self-styled godman's plea to be granted more time to appear before them, reports said.
The police said he Asaram might be arrested in case he failed to provide adequate defense.
Asaram's deadline to appear before the police ended on Friday.
Asaram's son Narayan Sai earlier in the day said his father was unwell.
"He is unwell. We have cancelled tickets to Delhi, which we had for this morning," Sai told media.
A team from the Jodhpur Police on Tuesday served summons to him in the case of sexual assault here.
The team reached Bapu's ashram in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city at around 8 am on Tuesday and served summons at around 2 pm after they were told that the self-styled godman was meditating could not be disturbed.
A 15-year-old girl, who was staying at Asaram's hostel in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kamla market police station in Delhi alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman.
The case was referred to Jodhpur Police for investigation and relevant action.
On Wednesday, Asaram Babu pointed his finger at Congress top leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for framing him.
