Asaram to miss police deadline?
Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old daughter of his devotee in Jodhpur, is likely to miss his deadline to appear before the Jodhpur Police on Friday.
His lawyers reportedly told police that the godman cannot reach Jodhpur for the police interrogation on Friday due to his relative's death.
Jodhpur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph told media that Bapu has been provided a deadline till Friday and if he fails to come for questioning then the police will send teams to reach him.
While the godman is in Madhya Pradesh now, a team from the Jodhpur Police on Tuesday served summons to him in the case of sexual assault here.
The team reached Bapu's ashram in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city at around 8 am on Tuesday and served summons at around 2 pm after they were told that the self-styled godman was meditating could not be disturbed.
Earlier, the Union Home Ministry had asked the governments of Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh to send reports on the complaints against Bapu.
In an advisory, the Home Ministry had asked the three state governments to send reports about the complaints registered against him.
A 15-year-old girl, who was staying at Bapu's hostel in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kamla market police station in Delhi alleging she was sexually assaulted by the godman.
The case was referred to Jodhpur Police for investigation and relevant action.
On Wednesday, Asaram Babu pointed his finger at Congress top leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for framing him.
