The Maharashtra State Handlooms Corporation presented designer Soumitra Mondal's 'Marg' label on the Day 4 (Monday) at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive 2013 here in Mumbai.

Combining the beauty of Jamdani weaves and hand embroidered techniques, Soumitra's 'Bunon' collection offered a contemporary line but with strong traditional touches.

Hand-woven silk, khadi silk and a line of Jamdani fabrics were turned into a stylish ethnic line.

Using a profusion of gold threads, the colours woven into the ensembles were dramatic black, grey, indigo blue, yellow and maroon.

Displaying elements from Bengal fabrics and weaves with intricate needle work; the collection was a glorious showcase of amazing Indian textiles in modern Indian and western silhouettes.

With a predominantly black and grey colour palette, Soumitra created a tale of beautiful traditional garments, starting with lean kurtas, slim pants, then on to lehengas and long sleeved cholis edged with scalloped hemlines, a variety of saris that displayed myriad weaves speckled with delicate bead work.

Showing some elegantly sophisticated gowns in cobalt blue sporting embellished sleeves and bodice, Soumitra added kalidaar kurta having gold embroidered yoke and sheer sleeves, followed by kurta with textured bodice.

The black skirt with a fully encrusted ornate blouse and black embroidered sherwani were the highlights of the show but embellishments were selectively applied so as to not overpower the beauty of the weaves.
