BSF seizes fake currency worth Rs 12.5 lakhs

Malda (West Bengal), Aug 25 : The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs 12.5 lakhs in two separate operations and also apprehending a racketeer Zaiul Haque in West Bengal's Malda district.


In the first operation on Saturday, acting on a specific intelligence, troops of 125 Bn laid an ambush in BOP Churiantpur area following which at about 9:30 pm , FICN racketeers from Bangladesh reached the fencing.

They threw some bundles from Bangladesh side across the fence were immediately challenged by the BSF party, a press release from the force said.

While the miscreants fled towards Bangladesh, the BSF recovered FICN of Rs 9 lakhs from the area. The party failed to apprehend anyone.

In a second incident, the BSF got a specific intelligence regarding the delivery of consignment of FICN in the area of Babantola, Kalichak, Malda .

A special operation was planned by the BSF that ended in the capture of Zaiul Haque, 30, a resident of Kahribona village in Malda along with consignment of FICN of Rs 3.5 lakhs.

On questioning, Zaiul Haque revealed that consignment was received by him from Mofiz Seikh, a resident of Sasani village Malda.

The South Bengal Frontier of BSF has seized approx FICN worth Rs 25 lakhs so far this year.
