Pune minor rape-murder accused arrested

Pune, Aug 25 : The man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl and then strangling her to death with her school tie in Pune, has been arrested by the police, media reports said on Sunday.

The father of the child on Thursday failed to pick his daughter from the school in Galandewadi village in Daund Taluka near Pune, following which the 22-year-old accused dragged her to a nearby sugarcane field on finding her alone.

He raped the girl there and then choked her to death, the police said.

''We searched for her and found her body in the field. She was raped... the police told us he strangled her with the school tie... I want that he be sent to the gallows for this crime," the victim's father told NDTV channel.

According to reports, the accused was arrested from a neighbouring village after a huge manhunt was launched for him.

The police reportedly said he had been spotted in the village every day since the heinous incident.
