Beating actor Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots', which was the top earning film in India, 'Chennai Express' has collected Rs 202.67 crores since it hit the silver screen earlier this month.
Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer '3 Idiots' had earned Rs. 202.47 crores at the domestic box office.
Bollywood trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#ChennaiExpress creates HISTORY. Week 1: 156.70 cr. Week 2: 43.85 cr. Week 3 - Fri: 2.12 cr. grand total: Rs 202.67 cr nett. India biz only."
He said: "Records are meant to be shattered and #ChennaiExpress does just that. Becomes the BIGGEST grosser of Hindi cinema."
Adarsh said filmmaker Rohit Shetty has become the most 'successful director of Hindi cinema' after his 'Chennai Express' smashed box office records.
"Rohit Shetty becomes most successful director of Hindi cinema: 3 centuries and 1 double century. 4 films that feature in 100 cr+ grossers!" he tweeted.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film features Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.
