Mamata calls price rise nightmarish

Kolkata, Aug 22 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said the country is passing through a 'nightmarish situation' with the problem of price rise 'haunting the people like never before'.

"The country is passing through a nightmarish situation. Price rise is haunting the people like never before. From petrol to onions, from diesel to dollar, from fertilizers to day to day expenses, prices are skyrocketing, " Banerjee said in a Facebook post on Thurday.

She said the economic disaster through which the country is passing 'is simply intolerable'.

Attacking the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo said,"In fact, the economic security of the common people is at stake. Is it a product of the so-called reforms and activities being pushed by the Government at the Centre in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha election?"

"Where is the leader of the country to save the people from economic onslaught and the internal and external security threats? As a citizen, I feel proud of my country. That is why, I am sharing my grave concern with the people of my country," Banerjee said.

"Public opinion and mobilization is very much needed at this hour. Let us all take a collective effort to save our country," she said.
