The Bangladesh team, led by the Director General of the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys, Mohammad Abdul Mannan, on Wednesday was felicitated at the Akhaura checkpost by senior Survey of India officials.
Mannan said the key issues of the meeting would be finalization of border pillars on the Indo-Bangladesh international border on Tripura borders, re-establishment of lost pillars, restructuring of broken pillars and a new survey for finalization of location for missing and pillars.
"This conference takes place twice in a year. This time it is being held in Agartala and next time it will take place in Dhaka. We are going to discuss the disputes of the border and reconstruction of pillars which have been destroyed or are misplaced. There are total 500 pillars between Bangladesh and Tripura. This is important to maintain peace in the international border of two friendly neighbours. We have been regularly holding such meetings for the last 64 years," he Mannan.
The 82nd Indo-Bangladesh joint border conference would continue till August 24 at Circuit House in Agartala.
An official from Survey of India, N.R. Biswal, said that decisions on the future course of action in the current financial year will also be taken during the conference.
"This meeting is held twice in a year during the inspection time and we decide about the future course of action," Biswal said.
