'Disgraced' Panesar focusing on Essex stint rather than England recall

London, Aug 21 : Disgraced England spinner Monty Panesar has said that he is focused on his cricketing stint with county side Essex rather than looking forward to a possible recall in the England side.

According to the Guardian, the left-arm spinner has joined the County Championship Division Two side on loan for the remainder of the season after he was allowed to leave Sussex following a police fine for his 'drunken urinating' antics.

Stating that he is hoping to get some bowling under his belt and make a positive impact for Essex, Panesar said that even though he is determined to work hard to gain selection for England in the return Ashes series, he is right now focusing on putting some good performances in for Essex.

Panesar, who debuted for the county against his former side Northamptonshire on Tuesday, also said that he hoped to get selected for the return Ashes series with his performance for Essex, although he added that he is not thinking too far ahead and is focusing on enjoying his cricket and having a good time.

According to Panesar, it was a great opportunity for him to get a handful of games for Essex, although he admitted that he would have preferred it to be another opposition than Northamptonshire

Panesar further said that he is not disappointed at his release from Sussex, who will allow him to leave on a permanent basis come the end of the season, as he felt that the club is in a position to do whatever they feel comfortable with, adding that he is lucky that Essex has taken an interest in him.
