Zuckerberg account hacker finally gets rewarded, but from fellow hackers

Wellington, Aug. 21 : The security researcher who discovered and reported the security bug in social media giant Facebook's timeline features and to prove the flaw's existence went a tad too far by posting message on the site's CEO's wall had been denied any bounty from the company.

However, the hackers worldwide have been sympathetic to Khalil Shreateh from Palestine and have decided to contribute money even if the social media giant has behaved close-fisted.

Chief technology officer of cybersecurity firm BeyondTrust, Marc Maiffret is trying to mobilise fellow hackers to raise a 10,000 dollars reward for Shreateh after Facebook denied him the 500 dollars bounty for having 'violated the site's terms of service'.

Maiffret, a self-taught hacker said that he has raised about 9,000 dollars so far, including the 2,000 dollars he initially contributed.

He said that Shreateh is sitting in Palestine doing this research on a five-year-old laptop that looks like it is half broken and the donation might help him in conducting further research.

Facebook's chief security officer Joe Sullivan said that the company will not change its practice of refusing to pay rewards to researchers who have tested vulnerabilities against real users, the report added.
