Darren Lehmann favoured to be next Oz coach

Sydney, Mar 22 : Domestic team Queensland coach Darren Lehmann has reportedly been touted as the next Australian national coach, following the criticism surrounding current coach Mickey Arthur after Australia's devastating performance in the Border-Gavaskar series.

Although Lehmann admitted that he does not know whether he would be prepared for so much time overseas, sources close to the former cricketer said that Lehmann is one of the few men who know more about the Australian cricket system and are better at educating young cricketers and helping them reach their potential, reports.

According to former national selection boss Trevor Hohns, Lehmann was a good cricketer himself and is coaching in the real sense of the word - teaching players about different scenarios in cricket and caring about their personal lives.

Hohns, who is also the Queensland chairman of selectors, further said that Lehmann also makes sure that the players enjoy themselves while playing, which he added, is often misconstrued by the public and the critics.

Stating that every player in the Queensland side thinks Lehmann would make a great Australian coach, Queensland captain James Hopes said that he thinks that the key to Lehmann's success is that he treats players as themselves, although he will be strict with the players when needed.

Meanwhile Arthur had shut down his Twitter account this week after months of abuse including messages belittling his heritage or telling him to go back to South Africa.
