In the latest brutal event which happened in Taliban former stronghold the southern Helmand province 555 km south of Afghan capital Kabul, five civilians lost their lives and another injured.
"A mine planted by militants struck a mini-bus in Marja district of Helmand province at 06:00 a.m. local time today killing five innocent people including three children, a woman and a man on the spot and injuring another," spokesman for Helmand's provincial administration Omar Zawak told Xinhua.
All the victims, he added, belonged to the same family.
Meantime, hospital sources in Helmand's provincial capital Lashkar Gah said they have received three civilians injured in a blast for medical treatment.
Zawak also blamed Taliban militants for organizing the bloody attack, saying the Taliban insurgents by organizing roadside bombings and targeting security personnel and civilians want to terrorize the people.
In a related incident hours earlier, a group of Taliban fighters stormed a camp of a local road construction company in Herat province 640 km west of the national capital Kabul, killing 10 people including nine workers of the company and a police constable.
"A group of armed Taliban rebels attacked a camp of a road construction company in Karakh district of Herat province at around 01:30 a.m. local time today leaving 10 people including nine workers of the company and a police constable dead," Israel Khan, a senior police officer, told Xinhua.
It was a local company involved in the road building between Herat and Badghis provinces over the past one year, the official added.
Taliban militants fighting the government have speeded up their activities against government interests since launching their so- called spring offensive in May this year.
A total 1,319 civilians were killed and 2,533 others injured in conflict-related violent incidents in the first half of 2013, according to a United Nations report released here in late July.
The UN report attributed 74 percent of the civilian deaths to attacks launched by the Taliban militants and other armed groups operating in the country.
