Ludhiana gets its own FM Gold Channel

Ludhiana, Aug 16 : Ludhiana city Friday got its own FM Gold Channel, becoming the fifth city in the country to get the hugely popular radio channel of state-run All India Radio.

The inauguration of the radio channel was done by Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, who is also Ludhiana MP, at the Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan auditorium in the city.

The four metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have their own FM Gold Radio stations.

Addressing the gathering, Tewari said the long pending demand for a local radio station in Ludhiana, being the largest and most important industrial hub of Punjab, had finally been fulfilled.

He said the current range of 20 km radius of the radio would be enhanced and studio-based programmes would be produced and broadcast from here. The channel be heard at 100.1 Mega Hertz.

The minister said he has taken up the issue of converting the existing Passport Sewa Kendra in the city into a full-fledged Regional Passport Office, so that applicants need not go to Chandigarh or Jalandhar.

He also promised that a new Shatabdi train from Ludhiana to New Delhi via Ambala would be soon started. He said the matter has already been taken up with the railway minister, said a statement.

Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar said that within a couple of months the local programmes would be aired from the station. Initially, one hour of locally-produced programmes each in the morning and evening will be aired. Thereafter, the duration of the broadcast of locally-produced programmes will be increased.
