Yadav, who is Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad's brother-in-law, had a 45-minute meeting with Modi.
The media was told it was a courtesy call by Yadav while he was on his way to Dwarka city to visit a famous temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.
Yadav had quit the RJD after being denied an election ticket in 2009.
He had then joined the Congress.
