BWF: 3 Indian shuttlers reach quarters

Guangzhou, Aug 8 : Three Indian badminton icons, including Saina Nehwal, reached the quarter-finals of the BWF World Championships here on Thursday.

Nehwal defeated Thailand's Porntip Buranaprasertsuk by 18-21, 21-16, 21-14 margin to storm into the women's singles quarterfinals. The match lasted for 52 minutes.

Registering an upset, PV Sindhu beat defending champion Yihan Wang of China in her pre-quarters outing.

Sindhu clinched the clash by beating her opponent by 21-18, 23-21 margin in 55 minutes.

In the men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap recorded an upset victory over world number six Yun Hu of Hong Kong and moved to the next round.

The Indian badminton player defeated his opponent by 21-13, 21-16 margin. The battle lasted for 37 minutes.
