Tamil Nadu gets 100mw from unallocated quota of KNPP
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Thursday declared that Tamil Nadu has been allocated 100 megawatts (MW) of power out of the unallocated quota, from the date of commercial operation of the Unit-I of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP).
Scindia in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday stated, "The Government of Tamil Nadu had requested the Ministry of Power for allocation of the entire power to be generated from Kundankulam Nuclear Power Plant to the state."
"Similarly, a request from the Government of Kerala for allocation of 500 MW power to Kerala to be generated from Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project was also received in the Ministry," the Minister added.
"However, they have been informed that the distribution of power among states can be as per guidelines only."
Scindia noted that as per existing guidelines for allocation of power, the entire power to be generated from Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (2x1000 MW) is to be distributed amongst the beneficiary states as : Karnataka to get 442 MW, Tamil Nadu to get 925 MW (including 10 percent home state entitlement), Kerala to get 266 MW, Pondicherry to get 67 MW and Unallocated will remain 300 MW.
