West Bengal: 6 die inside septic tank

Jalpaiguri, Aug 8 : Six persons died after inhaling toxic gas while working in a septic tank at the Riabari tea estate in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri disitrct on Thursday, police said.

Banarhat police station officer Prafulla Chandra Roy said the victims have been identified as Sakil Mia (32), Rizwan Mia (22), Jamil Mia (32) , Maqsood Mia (28) Taiyab Mia (32) and Sahabat Mia (30), all cousins and relatives.

The two critically ill, Subhan Mia (45) and Tousif Mia (22), were taken to the Birpara hospital.

Police said the victims at 0630 hours went inside the septic tank to clean it. At first two went inside and when there was no response then four others one after another went to search them but fell victim after inhaling toxic gases.

Later the fire brigade personnel went their and took them out from the tank.

The bodies were sent for autopsy.
