Five people, including two Myanmarese nationals and a former Assam Rifles officer, have been arrested for smuggling pseudoephedrine tablets of worth Rs.15 crore to northeastern states of India and Myanmar, police said Thursday.

"Zel Khan Mong and Dongh Lian Kham, native of Burma, Lianza Daula and C. Zoram Thanga of Mizoram and Vikas Bathla of Delhi were held with 140 kg of loose pseudoephedrine tablets and 50 kilogram of pseudoephedrine powder," said Additional commissioner of Police Ravindra Singh Yadav.

Yadav said these tablets were in high demand in the international market and used for preparing other party drugs - ecstasy and ice.

On March 19, police arrested Thanga and his three associates near Peeragarhi flyover in west Delhi. On checking their vehicle, police recovered 10 boxes containing white tablets, while five boxes containing white powder weighting 100 kilogram.
