Widespread and heavy rains are likely to hit Odisha over the next two days, the weatherman said here Monday.

A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal may result in very heavy rains at some places in northern and southern districts of the state, according to the forecast.

The low pressure area formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood is now well marked. Under its influence, rain or thundershower would occur, an official of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre told IANS.

Fishermen have been advised against venturing out into the sea as strong winds, reaching 40-50 km per hour, are likely to prevail along and off the coast, he said.
