Indian dancer, choreographer, actor and director Prabhu Deva along with debutant actor Girish Kumar and the producer Kumar Taurani was present in the city for the promotion of their new film, 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' on Friday.

'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' directed by Prabhudeva introduces Girish Kumar and features Kamal Hassan's daughter Shruti Hassan.

The music director of the film is Sachin Jigar and the dialogues are given by Shiraz Ahmed.

The film is the remake of Prabhu Deva's first Telegu film, 'Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana' which in turn was inspired by the 1980s cult movie 'Maine Pyaar Kiya'.

" 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' means, 'Ram, Will you come'. That is the reason I kept my character's name Ram. We were confused with 50 titles and finally we decided to settle on 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' ", said Prabhu Deva.

Girish Kumar said, "When I heard that Prabhu Sir is directing the film, I became very excited. I play an NRI guy who comes to India for his cousin's marriage and falls in love with Shruti (Hassan). That is the basic story with lots of twists and turns."

"The film is very close to my heart. It speaks about the culture and relation. The character Ram that Girish is playing is very nicely shown on screen. Being a well wisher of Girish, I always want that he gets a lot of success in life" said Prabhu Deva.

"I absolutely love Kolkata. Whenever I come to Kolkata, I know only two things, Rasgolla and Kali Maa" he added.

Girish Kumar was all praise of Prabhu Deva.

"Prabhu Sir is a very nice person. He handled me very patiently throughout the film. Shruti (Hassan) is a very talented actor and she shared a lot of tips with me while shooting. I hope the audience will like mine and Shruti's chemistry," said the actor.

He said, "I was very nervous when I heard that I have to dance with Prabhu Sir. Sir is always very comfortable to work with."

Producer Kumar Taurani said: "I spoke to Prabhu Deva about the fact that I want to launch my son. That's how the film happened."

Prabhu Deva justified his casting of Girish Kumar.

"I admit that I cast Girish because he is Kumar Taurani's son. But I told him that I will take an audition of his son. He agreed to it. After the audition, I was sure to cast him. I started the film after one year. I liked his hard work," said Prabhu Deva about his view on casting Girish Kumar in the film.

The film is set to release on July 19.
