Nelson Mandela in 'good spirits' at hospital

Johannesburg, Mar 30 : Former South African President Nelson Mandela is making steady progress at a hospital as he continues to remain under treatment for a recurring lung infection, said the country's Presidency.

"The Presidency wishes to advise that former President Nelson Mandela is in good spirits and enjoyed a full breakfast this morning, 29 March 2013. The doctors report that he is making steady progress. He remains under treatment and observation in hospital," said a statement issued by the Presidency.

"We would like to repeat our appeal for the media and the public to respect the privacy of Madiba and his family," it said.

Mandela was hospitalized on Wednesday with lung infection.

Earlier on Dec 8, the 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner was admitted to a Pretoria hospital.

He was discharged from the hospital on Dec 26.
