Inmate escapes from Assam jail

Guwahati, Mar 29 : An inmate fled from a highly security assembled jail in Assam on Thursday evening, officials said on Friday.

The fled inmate was identified as Dhruba Jyoti Das.

The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Thursday at Diphu district jail in Karbi Anglong district, when Dhruba managed to flee after his daily works.

"The works are done inside the jail boundary, but the inmate somehow managed to flee from the jail," an official said.

Karbi Anglong SP B B Chetry said the fled inmate was jailed in a murder case at Dimapur in Nagaland.

Top police official rushed to the jail and launched a search operation in the entire district and neighbouring areas to nab him.
