Police arrest 3 men for self immolation bid

Madurai, Mar 21 : Tension prevailed at the District Collector office premises when three activists of 'Tamil Puligal,'a pro-Tamil Dalit outfit attempted to commit self-immolation on the Srilankan Tamils issue, today.

Police said the trio Ondi Veera Pandiyan, Madurai District Secretary, Sevvel Chandran district Deputy Secretary and Saravanan, District Convener of the outfit barged into the premise with kerosene poured on them, shouting slogans against Srilankan President Mahinda Rajapakse for the alleged genocide of Tamils and attempted to set afire to themselves, this afternoon.

However, the alert policemen on duty pounced on them and foiled their bid to commit self-immolation.

Tallakulam police arrested them and registered a case in this connection.
