4 convicted in sensational bank robbery, 1 acquitted

Manjeri, Mar 21 : A fast tract court here today convicted four and acquitted one in the sensational bank robbery at Chelabra in Malappuram district of Kerala which took place more than five years ago.

The Manjeri fast track court convicted Joseph, Rajesh, Radhakrishnan and his wife Kanakeswari after finding them quilty of looting the SMGB of huge quantity gold on December 30, 2012, conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

However, the court acquitted fifth accused Sainuddin as the prosecution had failed to prove charges against his involvement in the crime.

The sentence would be pronounced on March 23, sources said.

The accused had walked away with 80 kg gold and Rs 25 lakh by making three holes in the floor of the bank.
