Defense Minister A K Antony laid the foundation stone of the 1047 bedded Command Hospital (Research and Referral), Southern Command in Pune on Tuesday.


He was accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff, Gen Bikram Singh.

They were received by General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command, Lt Gen Ashok Singh.

The function was attended by Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Air Marshal DP Joshi, and other senior service officers and civilian dignitaries from Ministry of Defence and Army Headquarters.

Presently the Command Hospital, Southern Command, Pune is a 1082 bedded, tertiary care hospital horizontally spread over an area of 108 acres in Wanawadi area of Pune Garrison.

With the fast growing advances in modern healthcare technology and ever increasing expectations of clientele, a need has been felt to construct a state-of-the-art modern vertical hospital to provide highest standards of quality medical care to its clientele.

The newly constructed hospital will be 1047 bedded ground plus six storied building and is being built near the Military Hospital Cardio Thoracic Centre, Pune on Kondhwa road.

This hospital on completion would be named as Command Hospital (Research and Referral) Southern Command, Pune.

Apart from providing comprehensive healthcare to its dependant service clientele, this hospital would also remain associated with the premier Armed Forces Medical College.

This hospital, being built at a cost of Rs 382 crores, will be housed in a self sufficient and environment friendly 'Green Building', equipped with facilities like rain water harvesting, modern fire fighting equipment, modern laundry services, dietary services with modern kitchen equipment and ultra modern effluent treatment plant.

On completion, this will the largest hospital of the Indian Armed Forces and will be at par with the best hospitals in the country.
