Punjab, Haryana get pre-monsoon showers

Chandigarh, June 13 : Pre-monsoon showers lashed most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Thursday morning, bringing relief to people from the sweltering heat of the past few days.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were lashed by moderate to heavy rain, which brought the day temperature down.

Met officials here said that rainfall was reported from most parts of Punjab and Haryana. Some areas in both states experienced heavy rain.

The rain made farmers happy sice the paddy sowing season has just started in both states, which contribute over 70 percent of the food grain to the national kitty.

The weather office here said that rain and thundershowers were expected in both states Friday too. Officials said the maximum temperature would remain low, compared to the highs of 42-48 degrees Celsius witnessed in recent days.
