Suriyanelli Rape Case: Kerala sessions court issues notice to RS Deputy Chairman Kurien

Kochi (Kerala), Mar.27 : A Sessions Court in Thodupuzha, Kerala, on Thursday, admitted a petition moved by the Suryanelli rape case victim and issued a notice to Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien.

The court issued the notice to Kurien after prime accused S.S. Dharmarajan provided new revelations connected with the case.

In the wake of Dharamarajan's new revelations, Sessions Court Judge K. Abraham Mathew has issued notices to the Kerala Government, P.J. Kurien, P.K. Jamal, Unnikrishanan Nair and Dharmarajan.

Earlier, a criminal revision petition was filed after the Peerumade Judicial First Class Magistrate Court had rejected the victim's petition to order the police for a fresh inquiry in to the case on March 2.

The court had then observed that there was no fresh ground to order inquiry in to the case as it had already been heard by the court.

However, the victim's counsellor A.J. Wilson moved the petition to order a fresh inquiry to Kumily Police as there was enough ground for the same in the wake of the new revelation by Dharmarajan, who was absconding after jumping bail.

At his hideout in Karnataka, Dharmarajan had revealed to a regional channel that he had driven Kurien to the Guest House at Kumily and that there was a conspiracy between the four accused.

The case will be taken up again on May 29.

Senior High Court advocate M.R. Rajendran Nair appeared for the victim at the court
