Government will not allow closure of Chowgule college:Goa CM
Panaji, Mar 21 : Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the Goa Assembly that Government will not allow closure of Higher Secondary Section of Parvatibai Chowgule college of Arts and Science.
Mr Parrikar, who is also minister of Education, replying to the question tabled by MLA Vijay Sardessai on Chowgule Education Society (CES), said CES has written to the Director of Education, requesting closure of the Chowgule College, that as the issue of the college was in the High court, he could make any statement at present.
He said Directorate of Education had sent a letter on March 8, 2013 to Dr R V Gaonkar, Authorised Signatory of (CES). stating reqeust of clsoure of Higher Secodnary school has been rejected, adding no Education system can impose any stipulation on the Directorate, by writing a letter, which is against the provision of Goa Education act and Rules 1884 and 1986.
The Chief Minister said government will tell the High Courts that government will remain firm on its decision and not allow closure of the College.
