Alteration of Leonardo da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa' for endorsement creates controversy at Jaipur art festival
Jaipur, Mar.21 : The Jaipur Art Festival momentarily attracted controversy over Leonardo da Vinci's famed Mona Lisa being altered and used to endorse a range of dairy products.
The five-day festival concludes on Friday. Around 150 Indian and Western artists are taking part in it.
The moment one enters the famous Diggi Palace, the venue of the festival, Mona Lisa with her enigmatic smile can be seen holding a couple of milk packets in the posters as an act of endorsement of dairy products of Rajasthan Co-operative Dairy Federation (RCDF).
Organizers of the festival Thakur Ram Pratap Singh said that the event is an effort to make the visual art festival as big as the Jaipur Literature Festival.
"Actually, this concept was in our mind since last two years, as we are from Jaipur and belong to one of the known families of the city, so we always make it a point to do something innovative in Jaipur. We do not have any personal profit motives. We had been planning since last two years that as the literature festival has grown big, the visual art and artists from different parts of the country should also be given a similar platform to portray their talent," said Singh.
