Obama's tree gift to Peres to be uprooted due to fear of germs!
Washington, Mar. 21 : The tree planted by President Barack Obama at the residence of Israeli President Shimon Peres on Wednesday will be uprooted by the Israeli agricultural ministry because it had not passed proper testing.
According to the Israeli website Ynet, Obama brought the sapling magnolia tree from the United States aboard Air Force One.
After its planting, he told Peres that 'it was an incredible honor to offer the tree to the beautiful garden, and to someone who is champion of the Israeli people and a champion of peace'.
According to Politico, but Ynet reported that the tree was soon ordered to be uprooted to undergo testing for pests.
The Ministry of Agriculture explained that as agricultural products are not allowed into Israel from abroad without passing inspection, for fear diseases or pests are found on the plant itself, the plant gifted by Obama will be uprooted for testing.
It will be returned to Peres' residence if it passes testing, although that could take months, Ynet reported.
