Kejriwal launches nursery admission helpline

New Delhi, Jan 13 : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday launched a helpline where parents can register complaints pertaining to the nursery admission procedures.

The setting up of the helpline (011-2735 2525), was announced by Education Minister Manish Sisodia last month. It will enable aggrieved parents to contact the minister's office about nursery admission-related problems.

"Why are Delhi schools resistant to being transparent? They should not have approached the high court," Kejriwal said.

He said schools were "charitable societies" and their motive should not be to earn profit.

The chief minister said calls will be received by trained executives who would answer the queries of the callers and register complaints against schools.

A unique ID would be sent to the caller via SMS as acknowledgment of his call for further follow up.

He said parents can also get information about locations of schools, seats available, seats reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, fee structure and names of the principals or headmasters.

Kejriwal also launched a web application, www.edudel.nic.in, which will facilitate pre-primary admissions in recognised private schools.

"Leading a comfortable life is the dream of a common man and education is the basis of that dream. It (helpline) is a step in materialising that dream," Sisodia said Monday.

The application will let parents find nearby schools by keying in their address or location.

Sisodia said the application and the helpline have been launched to bring transparency in the education system in Delhi.

"Parents can register their complaints regarding any school by calling the helpline. Their grievances would be addressed in three working days," he said.
