'12 Years a Slave', 'American Hustle' bag Golden Globe

Beverly Hills (California), Jan 13 : Heralding the award season in Hollywood, the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards were declared on Sunday night with the '12 Years a Slave', bagging the honour for the best motion picture - drama and the 'American Hustle', winning in the best musical category.


'12 Years a Slave' is a 2013 British-American epic historical drama film directed by Steve McQueen and an adaptation of the eponymous 1853 autobiography by Solomon Northup, a New York State-born free negro who was kidnapped in Washington, DC in 1841 and sold into slavery.

He worked on plantations in the state of Louisiana for twelve years before his release. The first scholarly edition of Northup's memoir, co-edited in 1968 by Sue Eakin and Joseph Logsdon, carefully retraced and validated the account and concluded it to be accurate.

'American Hustle' is a 2013 American crime comedy-drama film directed by David O. Russell, from a screenplay written by Eric Warren Singer and Russell, loosely based on the FBI ABSCAM operation of the late 1970s and early '80s.



Moreover, Amy Adams also won the best performance by an actress in a motion picture - Comedy or Musical award for the movie 'American Hustle'.

While, Jennifer Lawrence bagged the best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a motion picture award for 'American Hustle'.

According to the official reports, only two movies, American Hustle and Dallas Buyers Club managed to grab more than one award in the 71st Golden Globe Awards.

Matthew McConaughey won the best performance by an actor in a motion picture - Drama award for Dallas Buyers Club, while Cate Blanchett bagged the best performance by an actress in a motion picture - Drama award for Blue Jasmine.

Also, Leonardo Dicaprio was conferred the best performance by an actor in a motion picture - Comedy or Musical award for the movie The Wolf of Wall Street.

The best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a motion picture award was given to Jared Leto for Dallas Buyers Club.

The best director - motion picture was conferred to Alfonso Cuaron for the movie 'Gravity'.
